Canon LTM rangefinders - shutter wrinkles?
«

In looking at eBay auctions, KEH used listings, etc. for Canon rangefinders of the LTM era, I see a *lot* of references to "wrinkled shutter curtains", including some references which imply that this is a normal-for-the-model state, and implying that it doesn't impact their use.
Should I be avoiding these?

No, generally it doesn't affect anything.
Canon used stainless steel shutter curtains in their later RF's since cloth curtains can burn in direct sunlight. However, the stainless steel one's could get bent if a careless user accidently pushed their thumb on it while loading film.
I've never heard of a wrinkled curtain causing a problem, though.

I've never understood why it's even mentioned in the descriptions. (I don't think I've even seen one without some wrinkling.)

Believe it or not, my 7 doesn't seem to have any. Least not that I can tell. How long it says that way is another story.

I think a tacking iron ought to fix those wrinkles out of those curtains...

Maybe you could steam the wrinkles out, like they do to draperies while they're still hanging. Just kidding. Or am I?
