I have been interested in macro photography for a while but haven't taken the time or spent the money to get started. After a little internet research, some time looking through what I had on hand, and a couple dollars at the hardware store I was able to put together a setup that I can use to see if this is something I want to further pursue.

What I had on hand were a couple of Tominon lenses (75 MM and 35 MM), a reducing coupling (female side fits the lenses, male side fits tightly inside 1 ¼” pipe) , and a body cap for my camera.  The lenses were originally used on the Polaroid MP-3 copy system. What I needed was an 1 1/4" slip to male threaded plastic conduit coupling, and some 1 1/4" pipe.

Extension Tube

Here is another shot of the tube as well as the lenses. I am not sure what the item on the right was intended for but the threads fit the filter threads on the 75MM lens so I am using it as a lens shade.

A couple of my first shots with the 75MM

A shot with the 35MM

The results aren't great but better than I expected when I was mixing JB weld to attach a conduit coupling to a lens cap. I don't know what is causing the uneven exposure with the 35MM lens. I think I will cut a few shorter tubes and see what that does.

If bottom feeding is good enough for the wornderful catfish it is good enough for me.

I tripled my investment in this project and purchased a couple of $2.99 bundles of flowers today. Here are a few shots taken with the 75MM Tominon.

With temps well over 100 in north Texas it's nice to have an indoor photography project.

When inspiration strikes some times strike back get maybe a little better focus there as I could see it in the original shots.
