Anyone have suggestions on how to achieve hyperfocal-focusing using an Olympus 510 in the manual focus mode?  I have a 14-=42mm lens that doesn't have any distance markings.  I suspect I could use the preview mode to some degree but I thought there could be a better way to do this.  Anyone have thoughts on this?

Without lens markings the only thing that I can think of (and you've likely tried this already) is to resort to a hyperfocal chart; pick your focus distance and try to set the focus on something - anything - that's at that distance.  Recompose without touching the focus.

Not particularly elegant, convenient or quick, but it should work.

cheers!

You could rip a chart off the back of an old Welta and use some doublesticky tape to attach it to your Oly, but it would be in meters, and German.  Or find one on the web somewhere, print it out, and laminate it so you can carry it with you in your kit bag.

Four sites with info and charts on Hyperfocal Distance

http://www.tcinternet.net/users/nmolson/hyperfocaldistancechart.htm

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/hyperfocal-distance.htm

http://www.dofmaster.com/download_chart.html

http://vividlight.com/articles/3513.htm

There are many more, these were just the first ones I came across.
