The sound card gives pretty good measurements. You should set your aperture at f5.6, and measure time from the midpoints of the ascending and descending edges. I was told about the f/5.6 thing by local well-trained repairmen, who learn it in their factory courses and through experience.

I've measured some leaf shutters at 1/500 in 35mm cameras, FWIW.

I have used my tester on my Bessamatics mostly and I remove the lens during my testing so there is no aperature to set but I will keep that 5.6 in mind.In experimenting with my setup I always leave the aperature wide open thinking that the object is to allow as much light as possible because that is the strongest signal that I could get.
I have not tried the midpoint of the rising and falling waveform yet but I am pretty confident that I will record a much faster shutter speed.I have spent a lot of time agonizing over this trying to reconcile what I am seeing for shutter speeds. This will make my llife easier I am sure.Thank you for your input.Ron G

You folks are way past me if I get over exposed/underexposed I change my meter settings... Better to go and shoot and lose than to sit in a room with test equipment I think.. Smiley
