Today, after being a bit confused about the quality I was seeing in files out of my brand new 5D, I went back to the place I bought it,
Fotocare on 22nd St. between 5th and 6th Ave. This shop is a pro place, and someone is always there buying a complete Hasselblad digital kit or some other mega bucks thing. But every time I've gone in there, they have been nice, talked to me until I no longer had any questions, and showed me plenty of equipment when I asked. No pressure, no rush, no feeling that I was wasting their time even when I probably was.
So when I went in this morning, they took the camera, tried it with a couple lenses, tried my lens on a couple bodies, looked at the files on the computer, looked at files I had brought in to show them, then decided that it was not the lens as I had thought, but the sensor in the body that was out of alignment. So they went in the back, got a brand new camera out of the box, switched the serial numbers on my receipt, and gave the new camera to me and sent the original camera back to Canon.
No muss no fuss. This doesn't work right. Here is one that does. See you later.
I'll definitely be back. And if you come to NYC (or if you live here) I'd definitely recommend stopping by. They sell new stuff, used stuff and lots of digital printing stuff. Prices are typically the same as B&H for big ticket things, while accessories are sometimes a bit higher. But the customer service is great.
