The calendar is out and the building above came out nicely for May. Also, this shot of mine below was used for September, and the 1869 Atlas page that I copied for the society was used as the back cover. The organization liked the way the school district colors reproduced on that one, and while the larger type looked fine, but smaller cursive descriptions of home ownership that looked good on the 8 X 10 I provided, lost quite a bit of sharpness in the printing process. Not really a surprise.
Last Saturday the Historical Society had another day-long function, this was the 100th Anniversary of Founder's Day. This was when, in 1909, the town fist published its early history. It rained lightly all-day Saturday, but asked to do the photography I did so, much of the time under an umbrella. They know I shoot B&W, and so at least I don't have to worry about color aspects of the shoot. Shot several events where speakers were present. Glad I brought one of my flashes, and I hope I did well in that regard, though I'm no expert with the strobe. Among my subjects were descendants of the earliest town leader, and they came from afar to attend this event. Also photographed the governor, and a parade that included a group from Quebec Province that were French and Indian War enactors. I would have liked more closeups of that group, but had to run to another event. We had a rededication of a grave of a civil war soldier. A couple visiting from England apparently heard the first volley of the 21-gun salute and asked me what was going on. They were delighted to be able to see this, with the uniformed enactors firing their weapons and all. The rededication was because the original headstone had become damaged over the years, and the overseeing organization makes it possible to replace such stones with new ones, cost-free, I believe. We also have a lady who provides period games for the kids to try. I must say the kids really enjoyed some of the games, such as stilts and a ring-toss game using two sticks. In spite of the weather, it was all a big succes, topped off by fireworks in the evening. I'll put a slide show together when I get the films developed.
