Tom, go to Profile (buttons at top of forum), then click in Look and Layout Preferences link at left. At the top it says "Current Theme", click in "change" and select "Forum or Board Default". If you never changed it, it should already be selected.

Julio, Right, that is how mine is set up all along, but still I get nothing on "unread posts since last visit."
What I really would appreciate is the ability to log on to nelsonfoto, and then have the option to "Show all posts and threads" that I had contributed to, most recent first. This way I could quickly fins something I had been replying to the previous day or week.
Is that possible here?

Tom, I believe that's what you get when you select "Show new replies to your posts" at the top left of the forum header.

Julio, I have tried "Show new replies to your posts", but it seems incomplete. The more recent threads to which I have contributed do not show up with this option selected. For instance, this thread Re: "Show unread posts" not working?" does not show up, when obviously I have contributed to it.

Hmmm, we'll have to wait for the Hairless Leader intercession and advice.

Tom - I can't really answer the question at this time. If you can see the links, they should be working for you. I do believe the tools work on a login-to-login basis. As such, if you log in and check, see many new posts, then log out without having read them all, you might not see the same number on your next log-in.

I just tested that theory and it is valid; it is also how the tools describe their own usage. New posts or threads since last visit.
I checked the links before logging out and found numerous new threads listed. I left the forums, then logged back in and checked the link: nothing there. As anticipated.
Unfortunately, there is no method for maintaining the information pending confirmation of having read them. The trigger is log-in/log-out.
I'll look around to see if I can find a mod for the forums which will allow more controlled access.

Tom - I've checked SMF's mod site and there are no modifications that will allow us to toggle read/unread on recent posts, etc.

Thanks for checking, Craig. Probably not worth spending more of your time on it, but I don't think you need log out to lose them. Just go to another thread in the forums and then come back to "check recent" and they are gone. BUT, there is a long list of older threads there, it seems the last week's (approx) are in jeapardy of dissapearing. Or sumthin' like that.

Tom,
If you read a recent post and then want to return to look at more of them, you have to back up your browser to the "recent posts" screen you got when first asking for it. If you click a second time on "show unread posts" you lose those in the original list. Back up the browser, do not repeat the click to ask for the list. Works for me.

James, what happens to me is this: Lets say I've been away for 12 hours. I come back on nelsonfoto and click on "Show unread posts since last visit" (I'm sure there are plenty by then), and no list of posts appears. So there is nothing to go back to in my browser at that point except whatever site I was on previous to this one. H'mm-I noticed in my login I have it set to "forever".....but I suspect most people do.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet -- I didn't read every post completely -- but when the recent posts disappear, even if I haven't read them yet, I will go to the main page and scroll down to the bottom, where there is a list of the most recent posts and who posted them.

I suspect this will be one of those events that is not a learning experience. I say this because the last several times I have tried to "Show unread posts since last visit", inexplicably there is now a page or more of entries. I do not know what caused this to start functioning correctly, but I'm pleased.
