Am I the only one who has to scroll to the right on most images in people's posts? I know another SMF site where that is not necessary. I've tried several themes, and that makes no difference.
What should I be doing so the images appear complete, without the need to scroll?

Rose, I am guessing that SMF doesn't resize the images that are posted, so if one of us posts a large image it's going to appear actual size and scrolling will be necessary.

I think Mister Nelson was going to look into this at one time but he never got the answer to it .. He is a busy man. and as I say I send money when I can to him but free gets you what you get.

I try to limit image width to 700 pixels to avoid this.

Rose - please post a link to a specific thread containing images which force you to right-scroll. Thanks.
I am busy, but also keeping tabs on the forum as time permits. Not interacting much lately, I know, but I am here.
As for Larry's comment, I don't recall this issue arising before today. I'll check settings and see if there is a way to restrict images to a certain size (or force smaller version and link to larger), but generally this is accomplished using image-attach rather than embed. For obvious reasons, image-attach is not the way we do it here, else our bandwidth and storage would become an issue.
Hope all are well.
C.

I routinely post 800-pixels-width images, it does not scroll at that width.

Rose - please post a link to a specific thread containing images which force you to right-scroll. Thanks. I too note the same behavior. I have my monitor set to 'full screen', and the first two photos (Jorn's and Larry's) in http://nelsonfoto.com/SMF/index.php/topic,20598.0.html have scroll bars at the bottom - and require me to scroll to the right to see the whole thing. I'm running Firefox 3.0.5 on Vista. Raid's gorgeous beach shot was another. http://nelsonfoto.com/SMF/index.php/topic,20545.0.htmlAnother, ironically, is Rose's dog post, 'Shaggy Muses'; http://nelsonfoto.com/SMF/index.php/topic,20563.0.htmlHere's a screenshot of what I see. The image is 700 pixels wide. Also, as you see, the forum display itself only occupies less than 90% of the screen width. Is that a 'settings' thing somewhere that I can change? That would likely fix the scrolling problem for me. The above are but three examples; I've noted it in a number of posts. I can dig through to find more examples if need be; cheers! Bill

Thank you Bill and Larry.
CE - whenever you get to it. Obviously it's not urgent.

IIRC, with the previous setup you right-scrolled per page, but here you have to right scroll per post.

Thanks kinda funny.
My own post above (with the 700x421 image) forces me to scroll right, as do both of Larry's - though the bigger one moreso than the other.
Still viewing at 'full screen', but on a different machine here at work. And again the 'content box' only counts for less than 90% of the screen width.
Merry Christmas!! Bill

I have to scroll on most all pics as well. I have found when I posted the medium size (500 on the long side) from my flickr account I don't need to scroll. In looking for an example I found this thread. http://nelsonfoto.com/SMF/index.php/topic,20409.msg180620.html#msg180620The odd thing is, Kovac's's (I can never remember that before or after apostrophy thingy) pic is 600x800, but I don't have to scroll it, but Pete's shows to be 731 on the long side, and it does. Mine is 500 on the long and no need to scroll here. Oh yeah, I'm using Firefox 3.5.5 on an XP machine. It's not a big deal to me (or others obviously, we're still here) just a minor annoyance at times that I have adapted to. We're just glad to have this place to hang out at.

The only settings I have are for restricting max-width and -height of images posted to threads. Currently, both are set to null which allows for images of any size to be embedded.
I'm going to restrict images to 800x600 and this should take care of the hori-scroll issue. If you would like to share larger versions, please post links accordingly.
