The scan is looking pretty good to me. I'm with Ben though, scanning slides on a flatbed is not an easy process -- it's slow and there's a lot of post-processing to do. On top of that, the end results can be frustrating in comparison to what you see in the actual slide.

For what little it's worth, I've never been satisfied with 35mm film scans and as a graphic designer, I've had to do my share of scanning over the years. Whenever we had the budget on a print job, 35mm scans would go straight to either a drum scanner or a dedicated film scanner.

But I think you got a lot of good advice from others here to get the most out of it and again, I think the scan you posted is looking good.

head zoo keeper,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, but I'll just have to continue to use my current scanner.  I'll concentrate on improving my work flow technique.

P.C. Headland,

Thanks for your email, the tip not to use auto exposure, which corrected my problem of clipping ends of the histogram curve.  And thanks for sending your improved scan working with a low res jpeg.

I've followed your advice and made a higher res scan, which I think is a big improvement.  Let's see if others agree that the version below is better.

Much better Les the colors look natural and the excessive saturation is gone. I think you have it down!
