In the 1970s, during spring school breaks, I rented the summer house from one of the "supers" (aka janitors) at Newton South H.S. It was on an estuary across from Capt Penniman's elegant house in Eastham, MA --on Cape Cod. A gorgeous natural location par excellence. Down the narrow street that hugged the salty waterway was a family of 8 children. My son, Dan, then in middle school had a lot of friends to hang out with. Their father was seriously ill and couldn't work. The strong mother courageously managed to raise 8 wonderful children, all friendly, polite and charming. They certainly took after their Mom and more than likely their Dad, as well. I never saw him as he was in a hospital. I can't remember the family's name and we lost touch when the super's son returned from Vietnam and lived in that house full time and our three years of spring breaks spent in our Cape Cod ShangriLa came to an end. Here is a record shot of the family. It's a mighty small world, maybe someone in Nelsonfoto knows of this family. The photo was taken 30 years ago. Eastham, MA family, mid 1970s Minolta Autocord, 75/3.5 Rokkor, Arista Pro 400 (Ilford HP-3 or HP-4), D76 stock

Eight girls, yikes!! I hope that house had more than one bathroom. I bet those girls are wives and mothers and maybe even grandmothers now. That's a great shot, it's too bad you lost touch with them. You could probably find some of them if you google their names, though, they may have stayed in the neighbourhood.

Nancy, Thanks for looking in. I had originally started to write 8 daughters, but on closer examination I think the child to the right of the mother is a son with the long hair of the 70s. I forgot the family name, but my son Dan, now 46, surely remembers their name. OT: Dan's NPR program, "This I Believe" reached its apogee when the astronaut Dan Tani still in the space shuttle broadcast his essay from outer space to public radio listeners on earth a week or so ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2Y45hvLp8E&feature=related

Les, I actually thought that the child to the right of mom could be a boy, but I wasn't totally convinced. It's the shirt he/she's wearing that was the hard part, it looks like a boy's shirt, but the face is not very masculine. That's very cool about your son Dan's program being broadcast from space. Mike, you've got nothing to worry about until the girls reach 12 or 13, then you better build that man cave in the basement. Work on your intimidating speaches for potential boyfriends. (see the book Eight Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter for tips).

Nancy, I am not 100% sure it's a son, but Dan would know. He, his wife Mary Jo, and 6 year old twins, Ben & Maggie, are currently at the Red Sox spring training program for kids. And so the spring break traditions go on. For closure sake, here is Captain Penniman's house. It is predominantly painted in a warm yellow. It's a handsome house! That's Dan at same time the group photo was taken; up through high school everyone called him Danny. Note his long hair of that time. Doesn't look it, but it was very light blond and all natural. Captain Penniman House, Eastham, MA , mid 1970s Nikon S2, Nikkor35/3.5, Agfa IFF, Beutler I started this thread for others to show big family photos. They can be strangers or relatives and those of more than two generations, say at reunions. I'm sure you all have some. Let's see 'em! Jake, Thanks for breaking the ice. Very nice shots of extended family.

When we move into the next house, I'm getting a darkroom and workshop down there. That's the deal - SHE can have anything else she wants.

These were previously posted in the Found Film section. This is me and all my cousins at Christmas at my grandparent's house in Toronto, sometime around 1967 or 1968. That's me in the blue dress. This is assorted aunts, uncles, and grandparents the same Christmas. This must be after dinner, because during dinner, the tables fill the entire house front to back.

Ohhh ... kay ... Here's a reunion of my father's mother's mother's family (great-grandma is smack in the middle, in front of the guy in the dark jacket and shirt): This photo is from the mid-50s. The only person in the photo I ever met was great-grandma, on a trip to Ohio in 1956. She looked pretty much the same, so it would be within a few years of that one side or the other. Here's the same family reunion, nearly 50 years later (2001): I assume some of the geezer-cousins here were some of the kiddies in the first photo. I never met any of these folks, though I have had email contact with them, which is how I got the pictures. I do have names for most of the folks in the first photo, but not the second. The venue has always been the same, a park in Mt. Vernon, OH.

Thanks Jorn, Nancy and OPB for participating with your family group shots.
Mike must be seriously ill, if he doesn't have a gem or two for us. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Mike.
The group shots needn't be restricted to family, it can be from school, work or service photos of your unit.
Dig down deep! I know there are zillions in your digital memory banks. How about showing us a few! The more the merrier.
