To answer your question, same way you get to Carnegie* Hall.

I never actually took a PS course as such, but I've been fooling around with it and similar stuff for, oh, 13 years or more.

One other tip: the Web is your textbook!

You could go play over here for a while. might give you some inspiration to improve your photoshop skills. and it's fun too.
