A quick and dirty tutorial for embedding images from your Flickr account to your threads/posts here on NFf.

First, make sure you are logged into your Flickr account.

Next, log in to your account on these forums. Start a new thread, or a new post in reply to an existing thread.

Go to the image located on your Flickr account that you wish to embed here.

Once there, click on the ALL SIZES button above the image.

The first version that appears will, generally, be the largest, or, the original size. Scroll down.

Below each version are two types of links to use for embedding. Ignore the first, as it contains an HTML wrapper. Our forums are configured to break that code. Instead, we'll use the second link, which is the root URL for the image you wish to embed, at the chosen size.

To start the process, scroll back to the top of the page, and click on the SMALL link. This will change the view to the smaller version. Like so...

Scroll down, and again we see two sets of links. Copy the second link, marked 2. Grab the photo's URL

Merely clicking on the link should highlight it completely. If not, drag your mousetip over it to highlight it all, then copy the data.

Now, go back to your post.

Click the button, as indicated in the image below.

You should see a dialog open, like so:

Paste the URL you copied, into this dialog. Be careful! You want to replace the info originally in the dialog. Otherwise, it will fail. You can begin by deleting the existing http:// if you like. Else, be sure you paste your URL over it, rather than append the URL to the existing info.

Once you have pasted the URL, press OK.

Now, as per below, your image will be shown as embedded in the posting dialog.

So far so good. But maybe we really want to share the larger version. OK, not a problem.

Let's go back to our Flickr account.

Once there, scroll up, click on the ORIGINAL link.

Now, we're back at the ORIGINAL-sized version. Scroll down, copy the second link provided, and return to your posting dialog.

Once back at your post, click once on the image you previously embedded. This will add a selector lasso around the image, indicating it is ready for modification.

Click the hyperlink tool-tip, or .

Again, a dialog appears. The link you copied last, the one leading to the original version, will be pasted into this dialog....

...like so.

Press OK.

If you wish to add more images, or more link images, rinse and repeat.

Once you are done posting, press the SUBMIT button.

Now, we have a new post or thread containing an embedded image which is hyperlinked to the larger version.

That's impossible. I don't mean to be rude, but there's no valid reason why the process would fail, and it certainly should not result in your receiving the "invalid file" errors you stated you were getting.

Do you have a number where I can reach you?

Isn't he? I've tried following the very good tutorial, but to no avail. Would it help if I was halfway into a bottel of Grey Goose? PM me your phone #, and maybe you can talk me through it once. Gee, I can run a million dollar printing press, but I can't submit a snap to this group. What an idiot I am Sadhttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2417/1806139475_3914335bee.jpg

Having another look at your Flickr account.... you have images set to private, or to friends-/family-only. I cannot see the ALL SIZES on the images, which means you have them protected. In order to use them here as embedded, you need to modify your privacy settings for your images so that ANYONE can view them.

You can do this on a per-image basis, or you can modify the entire gallery via the ORGANIZE toolset.

Try the above first. If you still cannot get the routine to work, I'll call. I'm confident you will find that the privacy setting is the problem.
